Be-aware of these freelancing scams!

Freelancing Scams Article

Now-a-day by day work culture has become really toxic and schedule has been so hectic that an employee do not even get time for itself and seldom they think of leaving the current company they are enrolled it or leaving the current work they are doing! Imagine you are getting a job or you have to do a job in which there are no restrictions or rules to follow of a company and neither you have to work on specific instructions of a company, Rather you can work at your own time, Sometimes with a single people, Sometimes with a group of people and Sometimes with an organization and it is upto you on which field you have to work like in company you may get binded like let us consider that you are an employee of some reputed Software Company so here you may get specific role of managing database while you are interested and absolutely like to do website-related work but as you are the employee of that company, You should follow the order of what people in the upper position gives to you, But here as mentioned above it is totally upto you in which field you want to or are interested to work and while there may be fixed hours while working for any company, Here there would be flexible hours! Now you may think that is it possible to get all this privilege? So the answer is YES and this privilege is called

FREELANCING and the person who enjoys this privilege is called

FREELANCER. Here the word ‘Freelancer’ simply means like a ‘Free

Bird’ who is not binded by any company and neither has to do specific set of work but rather work for specific work for a specific people at a specific time which is suitable for it. Like who would not like to work as Freelancer, right? As per the survey taken by a reputed website, Majority of people loves doing this type of job where there individuality is preferred the most and those who even started doing freelancing job, Majority of them are happy with their work as well. So this clearly means that the demand of becoming ‘Freelancers’ and doing ‘Freelancing’ is increasing day by day. But it is not only the demand that is increasing, Scammers trying to scam people on the basis of freelancing is also increasing! Now one way wonder why are the scammers targeting freelancers now? So the simple answer for this is the more popular any thing becomes and the more they start becoming trends, The more scammer will try to scam! Now there would also be curiousity to know how these scamming takes place? So there are various ways through

Which freelancers are being trapped by these scammers which will be

discussed below:-

Let’s take an example:- Imagine you decide to start doing freelancing so  the first step here will be to connect with your clients who can be either a single person, An Organization or Some group of Peoples. Now for connecting with them, You will require to make your profile on the websites specially made for freelancer and there are various websites available currently for this purpose. Now you will sign up on that website, Make your bio search for the projects which you are best suitable for doing it and similarly your client would have posted about projects they need to get done by freelancers like you, After which you will have the conversation with client in detail regarding the project and will fix your price and the date by which you will finish and handover the project to client. Looks simple, right? Well there is an Actual Scam hidden behind this simple looking thing!!! Now let’s catch this scam….

Suppose there is a freelancer website named ‘abc.com’ where you have just registered and now you are making your bio. After finishing the bio now you are looking for the project which fits your requirement and you find that project! Now as the next step you will see the description and how to contact to the one who posted the requirement. So as the basic rule of every freelancer website, You will connect to client through the chat option of that website. Here you might start conversation by sending demo projects and also by giving description what makes you best suitable for their required project. Now after few times, Client will respond to you and that respond will determine whether they are the

actual client or some fraudster! Let see how…

1st option is :- Client will ask for your work then will have a discussion with you about his project and then based on your previous work, current qualification and how suitable you are for the given work, client will have a detail discussion with you about the exact work you have to do, deadline i.e. time before or on which you have to complete your work, then both of you will have money discussions about how much you are quoting versus how much he is willing to offer and finally when every box

ticks you will have a deal !

2nd option is:- As soon as you will directly message the client about your interest in doing their work, there will be lots of messages in either about how client feels you are perfect candidate for doing their work and how your profile is very impressive and similar buttering formats or they will write in a very professional and detailed manner about how they are from this prestigious company and how prestigious their work is and for that they need to make sure that I am the right person to whom they can give this elite responsibility and similar strict writing format ! And the main catch here is that you will be told either how important this work is or how you are the perfect candidate and how you have won their trust but but but as your work involves some secret and confidential files therefore for proving your liability and loyalty you must pay a certain security deposit which will be refundable after work done and your

payment cleared!

Now isn’t it really very obvious that option 2nd is most likely to be the scam and the reason it gives it away is not just because of way too formal or way too friendly message script but the main reason is ‘directly asking for deposit when it’s you who have to do their work’ and this is how we identify the frauds cause just consider that if someone is doing your work then it’s you who have to pay to them and they won’t be paying it for you like why would anyone in this world do the work and also pay for that work!! Sounds ridiculous, isn’t it? Well it definitely is and that is why always remember this golden rule that if the client asks for money for doing their work then 101 percent this is fraud and block that person and stay away from such people in near future as well!!!

Now this thought will come in your mind that why do these people do such cheap tactics and what they achieve by doing it? Well the answer is very simple:- Quick and Easy money! Because the money you me and all of us get by doing our job, the same money or sometimes even more they get by just simply chatting and manipulating you! But yes this also isn’t very easy or effortless as it requires a good amount of time and skills to trap the people and sometimes it even takes so long to complete

one task than it takes to complete normal office task as well! Now the natural and genuine question that is going through your mind is:-“If it requires so much of time and effort then why don’t these scammers invest the time in doing something useful or even normal work like all of us?” For this, the answer is very simple that they don’t have or keep just one target and stays behind them only but rather in a day average they  target atleast 30-40 people out of whom almost 5-6 people fell on their trap and now let us just assume that per person they are getting 2kinr then in just a day through this method they get approximately 10-12kinr!

Can you believe it 10-12k in just a day! Now look at the numbers that out of 30-40 only 5-6 may fell in their trap so if we do math they aren’t able to scam so many people it’s like 1 out of 8 person gets scammed but this 1 person is sufficient for them and this is exactly why even though it’s also hectic work that requires the time and effort they keep on doing this cause when even if 1 from the total 8 person will fall for them, they will

keep getting money!

So this was the psychology of a scammer like why they scam, what’s their purpose and all such things now let’s see one more psychology or can also say their methods their tricks through which they trap the people and why some people also fell in trap! A few pages above only I mentioned about how in freelancing websites you’ll meet two types of people along the option and there I told how they’ll give you a deadline and either behave wayyy too professional or wayyy too friendly and this is how you identify them, right? The same I mean the same psychology is applied here as well! Now before you get confused or even irritated

let me explain how:-

See people who are applying for a work in freelancing sites are either not doing any job or wants to earn extra by completing some projects. And here the scammers know this same thing and that’s why they know how vulnerable some people are, how some people are in extreme need for the project and when a person is needy or vulnerable, he/she will go to any extent and this is the advantage they took of the people and that is why they will either set a deadline like ‘complete this demo project within an hour’ and behave too professional and strict so a person in their mind have the image of them as some big company or influential people and once a person get that image, he/she will feel that whatever they’re saying it’s for the benefit of me and the company and that’s why without thinking much will accept this ‘Deposit’ condition! In other case the scammers will behave too friendly to win the trust of that person and seeing their sweet talks and friendly nature the person will feel that oh they are like my friend now and this will be necessary that’s why they’re asking else they won’t ask and if they(scammers) talks with me so nicely and have chosen me and trusted me by giving the demo work (they’ll generally say it’s confidential and we trust you and want you to do our other works as well that’s why giving you this) then it’s my responsibility as well to trust them back and tadamm scammers successful! And see that’s why not every person they are able to scam as not everyone will fell for such too disciplined or too sweet talk but at the end their target of getting xxx amount of money becomes successful! And yes one more

thing if they feel like this person is not feeling for their trick then they will also use the oldest trick that many people are using since a long long time which is ‘greed’, they will tell the person that you will get our next project as well or this project if you deposit amount then during refund we will give you 5 percent extra refund as well and all such things! And we all know how ‘greed’ works there’s nothing to write here!

So above all are the things you need to take care of in your freelance journey and every topic is covered be it:- what is freelancing, how do freelancers get scammed, most obvious way to find out if a client is genuine or just a scammer, psychology of these scammers, psychology through which a person gets trapped etc. And below you can also see the demo images of how scammers will try to trap you!
